Lure Coursing

If anyone does not know what lure course is I’ll try to explain. We lay out 300 yards of cord/rope and attach one end to a motor. On the other end we attach a bag or "lure" for the dogs to chase. You can design the lure courses in many different shapes. Once you turn on the motor---THE CHASE IS ON!!! Oh what fun to see the excitement of the dogs. You can almost hear them say "Let me go so I can get it!!"

The dogs just love it. They take to it almost instantly. One try is just about all it takes. It is a kick to watch them get so excited. If you ever get a chance, take your dogs to a lure coursing event. Just do it! Also, the dogs get very loud when they start chasing the lure. Although, there have been a few dogs that were not interested in chasing it, most of them take off like rockets!!!

My little Prince got first place in the Fun Day Lure Course. It was soooo funny. It was Snoop, Otto, Ka Zoo and Prince in the final race... And they were off!!! Ka Zoo took charge right away and was out in front, while Prince was way in back. As they got to the last turn, we thought Ka Zoo had it. But to our surprise, the bag turned and Ka Zoo went into a roll. She was running so fast she rolled and tumbled for 25 feet! While she was rolling the other dogs slowed down to watch her and Prince came from behind and grabbed the bag and he was the WINNER!!! It was very exciting and a BIG surprise. He got a beautiful lease rack hold for all his effort.

As we were preparing a special Fun Day for the dogs, we got our neighbor to make a lure course. Oh my, I could not believe the dogs. They really loved it! It only took about 15 seconds for them to figure out what they needed to do... and the game was on. They were going to kill that bag.

If was hilarious to watch the dogs. A couple were cheaters and some wanted to attack the motor. Jetta did great on the straightaways but she would forget to turn, and then look dumbfounded---- Where did it go???

Ka Zoo really likes this game. However, Louie just wanted to dig for the gopher that he found next to the course. Prince said he was going to get it no matter what, and my daughter’s dog Indy thought it was a great game.

My neighbor has a small hairy dog who was going after the lure, but about half way he decided to go stand by the motor and just wait for it. That's one way to do it!!
